The Concentration Problem

For three decades, the same mechanisms that concentrated wealth in a handful of firms also concentrated the infrastructure that journalists relied on to cover them.

Email providers, cloud services, payment processors, each a potential pressure point for anyone holding a story that the owners of that infrastructure might prefer unwritten.

The honest questions

Things worth knowing
before you start.

When is this available for my publication to use?

Forme is live now. You can sign up today, import your archive, connect your domain, and publish. Stripe-powered paid subscriptions activate once our payment processing is fully configured — we'll notify you and it won't affect your free publishing setup in the meantime.

What if I already have a publication on Substack or Ghost?

Upload your export and everything moves over — posts, slugs, subscribers, dates, and paid tiers. Old URLs redirect automatically. Most migrations take about 20 minutes. We also offer a fully assisted option if you'd rather not touch the settings.

What happens if I outgrow Forme? Can I export everything?

Yes. Your posts export as Markdown or JSON. Your subscriber list exports as CSV. We provide standard open formats with no artificial friction. You own the data — leaving should take 10 minutes, not a lawyer.

How is this different from Ghost self-hosted?

Ghost self-hosted means you manage servers, updates, and security. Forme handles all of that. If you want control over infrastructure, Ghost self-hosted is genuinely good. If you want to write rather than maintain a stack, Forme is built for you — with encryption and security features Ghost doesn't offer.

What's the refund policy?

You're charged at signup. If you change your mind within 30 days, request a full refund — no questions asked, no hoops, no pro-rating games. After 30 days you can cancel any time and keep access until the billing period ends.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Your publication is live on yourname.forme.press immediately. Connecting a custom domain takes about 2 minutes — we walk you through every DNS step. Most registrars work without any issues.

Do you inject ads into my emails or publication?

Never, unless you choose to. Forme has an opt-in contextual ad program for publishers who want it — you control it, you keep the revenue. We do not place ads in your content without your explicit setup and approval.

What happens to my subscribers if Forme shuts down?

Your subscriber list exports as a CSV any time — before, during, or after. We'd give you advance notice and a clean export window. Your data never depends on our continued existence.

Is my payment information secure?

We never see your payment card details. Billing is processed by Stripe — they handle card storage and PCI compliance. We receive only a confirmation that your subscription is active. Your subscribers' payment data works the same way.

Do I need to be technical to use this?

No. The editor works like any word processor. Domain connection is guided step-by-step. Import is a file upload. The encryption and security features are optional and designed to be usable by non-technical journalists. If you can use Substack, you can use Forme.
