Pre-work checklist.
Gather these before we start. The more you have ready, the faster your migration goes. Nothing here is technically difficult — it's mostly about having files and logins in one place.
Your export file
Settings → Account → Export data. You'll receive an email with a ZIP containing your posts and subscriber list. This can take a few minutes.
Settings → Labs → Export content. Downloads immediately as a JSON file.
Contact your platform's support for the export path — each is different. A subscriber CSV is the minimum we need.
Your subscriber list
Even if it's inside your main export ZIP, having a standalone CSV is faster to work with. Export includes at minimum: email address, subscription status (free/paid), and join date if available.
Your paid subscribers need a separate migration email explaining the switch. Having them identified in advance speeds this up significantly.
Domain access
GoDaddy, Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains, or wherever you registered your domain. We'll need to add a CNAME record. You don't hand us your password — we'll walk you through the exact steps.
Sometimes DNS is managed separately from registration (e.g., domain at GoDaddy but DNS at Cloudflare). If you're not sure, we'll figure it out together.
Stripe (for paid publications)
Your existing Stripe account can connect directly to Forme. You don't need a new one. We'll walk you through connecting it.
Monthly and annual rates, any legacy pricing tiers you want to honor. Write these down — you'll recreate them in Forme.
Most publishers offer migrating paid subscribers a free month or a small discount to resubscribe on the new platform. Decide your offer before we start — it goes into the migration email.
Content to preserve
Especially any posts with significant inbound links. These are the ones we'll double-check have correct redirects after migration.
Screenshots of your current publication's look, or any custom CSS you've added. Useful reference for recreating your brand in Forme.
Nice to have (not required)
If you use GA, grab your measurement ID — we'll add it during setup.
Twitter/X, Mastodon, LinkedIn — these populate your publication's about section.
PNG or JPG, at least 400×400px.
Don't have everything on this list. That's fine — submit your intake request anyway and note what's missing. We'll figure out what's actually needed for your specific situation.
